PM Modi Resigns, Set to Take Oath for Historic Third Term on June 8

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tendered his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday, along with his Council of Ministers. Modi is expected to take the oath for his third consecutive term on Saturday, June 8, marking the first time since Jawaharlal Nehru that a prime minister will serve three consecutive terms.

Both the BJP-led NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc are preparing for key meetings with their leaders and alliance partners to analyze the election results and strategize for the future. The NDA has secured 293 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats, while the INDIA bloc has won 233 seats.

Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President Chandrababu Naidu will attend the NDA meeting at 5 pm today, where top BJP leaders and other allies will also be present. Meanwhile, INDIA bloc leaders, including MK Stalin and Sharad Pawar, will meet at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence on Wednesday evening. Ahead of the meeting, Pawar stated that there has been no discussion within the INDIA bloc about reaching out to the TDP or JD(U) to strengthen their alliance for government formation.
